Indication

Rocuronium is indicated in adult and pediatric patients (from term neonates to adolescents [0 to ≤ 18 years]) as an adjunct to general anesthesia to facilitate endotracheal intubation during routine induction and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery. In adults, rocuronium is also indicated to facilitate endotracheal intubation during rapid sequence induction and as an adjunct in the intensive care unit (ICU) to facilitate endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation.

Dosage

Like other neuromuscular blocking agents, rocuronium should only be administered by, or under the supervision of, experienced clinicians who are familiar with the action and use of these agents.
As with other neuromuscular blocking agents, the dosage of rocuronium should be individualized for each patient. The anesthetic technique used, expected duration of surgery, sedation method, expected duration of mechanical ventilation, potential interactions with other concomitant medications, and the patient's condition must be taken into account when determining the dose.
The use of an appropriate neuromuscular monitoring technique is recommended to evaluate neuromuscular block and recovery.
Inhalational anesthetics potentiate the neuromuscular blocking effect of rocuronium.
This potentiation only becomes clinically relevant during anesthesia when inhalational anesthetics have reached the tissue concentrations required for this interaction. Therefore, in prolonged procedures (lasting longer than 1 hour) under inhalational anesthesia, lower maintenance doses of rocuronium at less frequent intervals or lower infusion rates should be administered.
Risk of Medication Errors: Accidental administration of neuromuscular blocking agents can lead to serious adverse events, including fatal outcomes. Store this product with the intact cap and ferrule, and in a manner that minimizes the likelihood of selecting the wrong product (see Special warnings and precautions for use).
